Ⅳ. Suggested Solutions to Chinese Higher Education
From the above-mentioned problems existing in China’s higher education and learning the main advantages and achievements of American higher education, some suggested solutions will be given to Chinese higher education.
Chinese higher education system should boost the coordinated development of the scale and quality. In the expansion of the scale, it should abide by the principle that the development of scale serves the improvement of quality. China’s higher education should insist on the simultaneous development between quality and scale.
The higher schools should foster the full improvement of students’ quality. In cultivating talents, the schools should persist in improving students’ morality, knowledge and ability. Humanistic quality should be strengthened in higher education. The higher schools can try to set up different subjects and specialties scientifically and open some technic courses which are related to the specific specialties.
The country should develop and use faculty resources. Among all the courses’ resources, teachers play a leading role. The teachers decide the discrimination, development, accumulation and utility of the courses’ resources, they also decide the basic condition to carry out the course. Thus, faculty resource should be put in the first place during the process of opening and developing the courses’ resources. First the country should strengthen the training of the teachers, improve their professional knowledge and ability. Next is to improve teachers’ conditions of work and living, stabilizing the group of teachers. Last is to set up the long-term mechanism to open and develop the courses’ resources, promote their consciousness of using the resources.
The higher schools must choose the appropriate material resources and teaching material. Choosing those seriously can diversify the teaching contents and stimulate the enthusiasm of teachers and students. In addition, this will deepen students’ experience and knowledge. Meanwhile, the conditional resources of courses should be optimized and completed. In order to guarantee the demand of teaching, input to construct the necessary facility must be increased. Schools can organize students to have the class outside, enter the community and learn with the citizens. The most important one is to establish the coordinated and shared mechanism of courses’ resources. The open and development of courses’ resources should find the feet on the colleges and universities and attach importance to extramural. Chinese higher education system should integrate the school internal resources to increase efficiency.
Ⅴ. Conclusion
For the past few years, the scale of China’s higher education has been expanded sharply. Recently, the ministry of education has proposed that the focus of the work of higher education should be transferred to the improvement of quality. It is quite correct to transfer the focus to the quality after a long time development and reform. With regards to this, China can learn and utilize American higher education’s successful experience, but don’t copy it; this must be conducted in accordance with different situations of every higher school. Only by this can China’s higher education develop healthily. It will realize the three functions of higher education——education, scientific research and social service. The concept of higher education development will provide the new power for CPC's all-round construction of the well-off society and the realization of great Chinese restoration. The two educational philosophies in the two higher educational systems have their respective strong points and weak points. The Chinese university students may learn from their American counterparts to be more creative, pragmatic and cooperative; the university students in the United States may learn from their Chinese counterparts to control their passions sometimes in order not to disturb others. All in all, more communications between the two kinds of higher institutions will definitely do good to both sides.
